How to Save Up for Vacation all Winter Long- Want to take a vacation next summer and not sure how to make it work? Here's how to save for a trip all winter!

It may seem like it’s too early to start planning for summer travel, but before you know it summer will be back again. If you are like most, you like to travel in the summer, but there never seems to be enough money left over to do it. Here’s how to save up for vacation all winter long!

How to Save Up for Vacation all Winter Long

Open a Vacation Savings Account

If you are serious about traveling this summer, the first thing you need to do is start a savings specifically for traveling. Open a new savings account that isn’t connected to your checking account. Start plopping as much as you can afford from each paycheck into your vacation savings account.

Get the Acorns App

The Acorns app is a great way to save money for summer without even thinking about it. It takes your spare change from your checking account and invests it for you. For example, if you spend $23.50 at the gas station, Acorns would invest 50 cents from your account. This is a great way to keep all your purchases rounded up to the nearest whole dollar and save your spare change along the way.

Make Extra Money with Uber

More and more people are downloading the app and using Uber to get around. This is a great way to use your car and make a little extra on the side. You can drive people around and get paid per mile. On days when your community has games or activities, the price can double or triple, so you can make a good amount of money.

Sell Stuff You Haven’t Used

Go through your things, and do the 6-month check. If you haven’t used or worn an item in 6 months or longer, put it in the pile to sell. The internet makes it simple to sell things online. Post your items on online garage sales sites, eBay, or take used clothes to consignment shops. Use any money you make selling your items towards your vacation.

Stash away grocery savings

I like to use apps such as Checkout 51 and Ibotta to get rebates back on items I buy anyway. The very first week I started using Ibotta, I actually got a whopping $48 back! If you do this for an entire year, you could easily add several hundred dollars to your travel fun. You can cash out at $20, and it can go directly into a PayPal account.

Do the $5 Savings Plan

This one is super simple to do and it adds up incredibly fast. All you do is add every $5 bill you happen to get to a pot. That’s it! It will feel like you aren’t even saving much bit if you think about it; you only need 20 $5 bills to get $100!

The more you do throughout the winter to save money, the more you will have for that vacation in the summer.
